The Green Harbor Tuna Club, the oldest Tuna
Club on the Massachusetts South Shore was founded in 1970 in Marshfield
to promote recreational fishing for Bluefin Tuna. Over the years, the
Club has expanded their activities to include a multi-species season long
Tournament, as well as Cod, Bluefish, and two Bluefin Tournaments, one
of these reserved for lady anglers only. In 1989 the Club added a Spring
Masters multi-species Tournament. In 2000 the club added Wolfish, Cusk,
Yellowfin Tuna, Dolphin and Wahoo to the interclub tournament, which
runs from April 15th to October 15th, and removed blue shark to help
preserve the species.
In 1985, the Green Harbor Tuna Club became involved with charity work and for many years,
we have dedicated an annual tournament to raising funds for a cause.
Each year, we choose a charity and an event for the Club to contribute
to. These events have been
especially rewarding experiences for the Club members.
In 1995 the Club celebrated its Twenty Fifth-Anniversary year. The
festivities included a year-end social of over 180 members and guests to
celebrate our 25th.
In 2005, with the addition of the shark tournament, the club will be
sponsoring nine tournaments targeting the various game fish available in
Massachusetts Bay and surrounding waters. These tournaments are geared
towards good family fun, friendly competition, Club camaraderie, and
responsible sportsmanship. We continue with the all Ladies Tournament
that was introduced in 1996 and with a special category for the Bluefin
Tuna Tournament to encourage greater participation.
This year, to focus on the social aspects of our great Club,
we will be adding a family, non-fishing event to our schedule. It should be another
great year.
